We descended directly onto the glacier instead of taking the normal route behind the hut. The hut warden had recommended this option because the usual route was reportedly heavily crevassed and prone to frequent rockfall. Indeed, while crossing the glacier early in the morning, we heard rocks falling twice from that exact section. We navigated around the crevasses throughout the ascent, avoiding snow-covered areas whenever possible. We then climbed toward the Col Supérieur du Tour, and once on the Trient Glacier, continued our approach toward the Aiguille du Tour. Just before reaching the rocky section of the Aiguille du Tour, there is a bergschrund. On that day, it was very wide open, and the only possible crossing was a narrow track on the right that looked as though it was about to collapse. I suspect this passage will no longer be usable within a few days. Once we reached the base of the rocky section, we left our ice axes and crampons behind before beginning the final climb to the summit of the Aiguille du Tour. This last section is a real pleasure to climb, and the views are absolutely spectacular.
